A driver was killed and another injured during a non-loaded test run of a new metro line in Kunming, Yunnan province. The first carriage of a test train derailed, causing its heating device to collapse and hit the drivers in the cabin.
The train was approaching Dounan Station when the accident occurred, and has remained near the exit of a tunnel since then. The first carriage was severely damaged, with the windscreen completely broken and spare parts scattered all over the rail.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. This is the third accident at a subway construction site in two weeks, raising public concerns about safety in relation to the rapid construction of metro lines in many cities in order to ease road congestion.
