Chairman of Zishou county’s Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) , Wang Yubo, was caught napping in a session of the Yulin CPPCC last week. His snooze, he said, was due to a pharmaceutical side effect.
The photograph of his cat-nap was uploaded to Weibo on January 8 but no explanation was forthcoming from Shaanxi authorities until January 10.
An official report claimed he was suffering from a ‘serious neurological headache’ and that after he took ‘hypnosis medicine’ he developed side effects such as ‘lacking vitality’ and ‘drowsiness’.
The Yulin disciplinary inspection committee has criticised this report. It certainly won’t do anything to help the image of party officials despite Xi Jinping’s best efforts, although it’s good to see public faces keeping up appearances by getting their beauty sleep.
Luckily things should be livelier down south at the Guangdong CPPCC in the future given the recent appointment of Kung Fu star Stephen Chou.
