Billionaire philanthropist Chen Guangbiao once again thrust himself into the national spotlight Tuesday, laying under a wood and steel plank as two cars drove over him before bicycling away unharmed.
A small crowd gathered to watch the stunt in Nanjing, where Chen, dressed in a heavy army surplus coat, claimed to have withstood a total weight of 1.5 tons as the cars rolled over his chest.
Chen explained that the event was intended to encourage people to drive cars less, ride bikes more frequently, and live greener lives in general.
This is by no means the first time Chen, who made his fortune in recycling construction materials, has attempted to spread his environmentalist message through attention-grabbing stunts. Just last Saturday, Chen teamed up with pianist Lang Lang to give away 5,000 free bicycles at another event in Nanjing, while in September 2011, he personally smashed a Mercedes Benz with a giant robotic arm.
