Pencil This In is all the things you’d want to do this Monday through Thursday. This week we have a Monday night gig of RJ Big Band at JZ club, an influential classic ghost movie brought to you by Sub-Cinema, and the monthly Dixia FM party with the hottest Chinese alternative rock tunes at Inferno. Virgo can’t stop coming up with odd party concepts, and if you know what we have to say about that, check out what’s up on Thursday night. Read on for all the details, or check out our calendar for more!
RJ Big Band @ JZ Club
Survived Monday the not so fun day? Warm yourself up with live jazz music at JZ Club. RJ cleaned up at the 2012 JZ festival (“Best Group”, “Best Talent”), and they’re playing a gig at 10pm. Fans and friends can RSVP at “[email protected]” for the fans party, which starts at 8:30pm.

Sub-Cinema: Kill Baby, Kill @ DADA
Quite a lot of horror flics rehash the same, uninspiring storylines and clichés over and over again. Question: Have you seen a scary movie about a grievous, revengeful ghost terrorizing people? As in The Ring, The Grudge, Sleepy Hollow just to name a few prominent examples… the list goes on. Well, Mario Bava’s classic from the sixties can claim to be an early bird, inspiring generations of horror films to follow. “Dr. Eswai is called by Inspector Kruger to a small village to perform an autopsy on a woman who has died under suspicious circumstances. Despite help from Ruth, the village witch, Kruger is killed and it is revealed that the dead woman, as well as other villagers, have been killed by the ghost of Melissa, a young girl who, fed by the hatred of her grieving mother, Baroness Graps, exacts her revenge on them. Dr. Eswai, along with Monica, a local nurse, are lured into a fateful confrontation at the Villa Graps.” (IMDb)

地下(Dixia) FM: Chinese Underground Music Night @ Inferno
Dixia FM is a showcase of what the Chinese alternative music scene has to offer. From indie to punk and metal, you will find plenty of domestic rock tunes on rotation. And yes, tracks from local bands frequently featured in our ‘Midweek Music Preview’ are to be expected. Free party, so come check out Yongjia Lu’s hot as hell Inferno bar!

Pajama Party @ Virgo
It’s not the first time that Virgo comes up with a weird idea for their weekly ladies night. Most (grown-up) people I know wear pajamas either when they get ready for bed or when they have a lazy, cozy day at home. In other words: When they clearly don’t give a shit what they look like because nobody’s going to see their drowsy, pasty-faced appearance, wrapped up in a loose piece of cloth. But there’s one obvious pro argument for partying in pajamas: When you get home late, you don’t have to change before you go sleep. Unless you got sweaty or fogged by cigarette smoke on the dance floor, that is. And after all it’s not too uncommon to go out on the streets in a pajama here in Shanghai. Anyway, the funniest pajama-wearing girl can win a bottle of booze. And for all the other female loosers, there’s still free pizza and selected drinks till 11pm.
Free drinks and snacks for ladies till 11pm // 9:30pm // Virgo // Laomatou Bldg 11, 505 Zhongshan Nan Lu, near Fuxing Dong Lu (老码头, 中山南路505号11栋, 近复兴东路)
