Happy Chinese New Year. Bye bye dragon, welcome snake. We have parties for the friends of dubstep and techno happening at Dada and Shelter this weekend, plus the opening of Kung Fu Komedy’s very own full-time venue within Masse! Hollywood attempt to set up a Moulin Rouge party, and Virgo organized a Chinese dumpling chef to teach you how to fix jiaozi so you don’t have to starve on CNY. On Sunday, Zeal and Shiva welcome you for an extended party weekend. Let the holidays begin! And if that’s still not enough, head over to our calendar for more.
Kung Fu Komedy Launch @ Masse
They’ve had their quiet soft opening the night before, and now it’s official: The Kung Fu Komedy Club get their own permanent section in Masse, just in time for their 2nd-year anniversary. That means we witness the opening of mainland China’s first and only full-time comedy club (they say). Congratulations from Shanghaiist! 50 kuai get you in, and a good dose of stand-up comedy with Turner Sparks, Damon Sumner, Audrey Murray and others.
50RMB // 9pm // Masse // 5-6/F, 219 Jinxian Lu, near Shaanxi Nan Lu (进贤路221号5-6楼, 近陕西南路)
Deck-FX: CNY Edition @ DADA
A lucky party with lots of gold and red, and no entrance fee. Get your ass over to Dada if you wanna party to DJ Loo and Q-Kraft playing jungle, dubstep and jungle beats till late.

VOID: Serpentine @ The Shelter
VOID’s pre-CNY party named Serpentine, pun intended. House and techno with SH_Ultra, Chris Jobs, MHP and Nat Alexander. And when you crawl out of the cave the next morning, it’s almost year of the snake, surprise, surprise.
30RMB // 10pm // No. 5 Yongfu Lu, near Fuxing Xi Lu (永福路5号, 近复兴西路)
Moulin Rouge @ Hollywood
Moulin Rouge theme party at Hollywood. OK guys, if you boast that name and don’t have some burlesque dancers and can can girls up in the sleeves, you suck! Don’t disappoint us, we already don’t expect miracles from the music.

Dumpling Making @ Virgo
Virgo invites you to a free dumpling making party with a Chinese dumpling chef. I learned how to make dumplings years ago in Taiwan and it was a rather gross affair, so if you’re as clumsy as me, you don’t want to wear your nicest black outfits. Anyway, the dumpling making starts at 6pm, so if you don’t have dinner plans, this cute idea could turn out to be quite fun with a couple of friends.
Free // 6pm // Virgo // Laomatou Bldg 11, 505 Zhongshan Nan Lu, near Fuxing Dong Lu (老码头, 中山南路505号11栋, 近复兴东路)
Double Happiness @ DADA
Double Happiness (not brought to you by that gross cigarette brand). is back, the party series by Lindberg and American Booze DJs. Frivolous dance music from house to disco and boogie – they wanna see you move.
Free // 9pm // Dada // No. 115 Xingfu Lu, near Fahuazhen Lu (幸福路115号, 近法华镇路)
Chinese New Year’s Eve Party @ Bar Rouge
Nothing much to say. Bar Rouge will be Bar Rouge, even on the Chinese New Year’s Eve. Yup. But if you wanna look down on all the human sandwiches trying to peek at the fireworks on the Bund, their terrace would be a marvellous place to do so.
100RMB after midnight // 10pm // Bar Rouge // 7/F, 18 Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu, near Nanjing Dong Lu (中山东一路18号7楼, 近南京东路)
The Year of the Snake Celebration @ Zeal
We’re glad that Zeal has recognized the lackluster competition on this Sunday and opens for a CNY party. Although we can’t promise it’s gonna be a better thrill than anywhere else.
100RMB incl. one drink // Zeal // 6/F, 22 Zhongshan Dong Er Lu, near Xin Yongan Lu (中山东二路22号6楼，近新永安路)
Crispy @ Shiva
Crispy techno and house to be found here if you don’t want the night to end yet. With Crispy.
Free // 11pm // 47 Yongfu Lu, near Fuxing Lu (永福路47号, 近复兴路)
