Midweek Music Preview is a rundown of all the events happening on stages across Shanghai. On the docket this week: Top Floor Circus play their curious alternative rock gems at Yuyintang on Wednesday night. On Thursday, there are a few Valentine’s day concerts for the sweethearts and those who don’t give a fuck and just wanna hear live music alike. Live Bar, Yuyintang and JZ Club offer supposedly date-proof soundtracks for the night, and SOAC reruns the Oscar music concert of last month. Scarce selection, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise during the CNY holidays. After all we have plenty of free time to spend so it makes perfect sense everything is closed and dead. Right?
And if that’s still not enough, head over to our calendar for more.

Happy Valentines @ Live Bar
Jie Zi, Zhou Young and Xiao Pang play accoustic music at Live Bar for all the lovers out there. The theme for the night sounds less romantic: Have a date with the god of money. Well, after all Valentine’s Day is mostly about spending money, and let’s not forget we are in Shanghai. In the end it makes perfect sense. The show is free though.
Free // 9pm // Live Bar // 800 Guoshun Dong Lu, near Shuangyang Lu (国顺东路800号 近双阳路)
Soulful Valentine’s Day @ JZ Club
Motown-themed Valentine’s Day, with soulful love songs – as the name suggests:
Boyana Walsh will bring her original work to the JZ crowd for the first time, along with a selection of great musicians. Special guest Meachie Day (USA) will also be performing a few of his original tunes – Valentine’s at JZ is bond to be a celebration of love. To round it up, ladies get in for free.
50RMB // 9:00pm // JZ Club // No. 46 Fuxing Lu, near Yongfu Lu (复兴路46号, 近永福路)
