The Maoist group Utopia has written an open letter (CN) of congratulations to North Korea on the ‘happy news of the successful third nuclear test of the DPRK’, which is really very sweet and well mannered of them, like sending a ‘congratulations on your graduation’ card, except instead of graduating they’ve violated UN nuclear sanctions.
We, Utopia, and the Chinese people, that uphold world peace and justice, wish to congratulate you, Comrade Kim Jong-un, the mighty Workers Party of Korea and the mighty Korean people, on the happy news of the successful third nuclear test of the DPRK. [Translation by Beth Main.]
Except that they forgot to ask anyone else in China what they thought about the nuclear test, if they had they would know that the Chinese people are pretty firmly against their nutty next door neighbour getting the bomb, and even the CPC is pretty pissed off with Kim Jong-un right now.
Utopia are super keen on emphasising the long standing friendship between China and North Korea:
60 years ago, the Chinese people under the great leadership and tutelage of Chairman Mao Zedong, fought shoulder to shoulder with the North Koreans and achieved a great victory in the anti-US war forcing the US to sign an armistice treaty. Today, the Chinese people will continue to support the DPRK’s great efforts in seeking independence, autonomy, and national security. The Chinese people will continue to support the North Korean people. No matter the fluctuations in the current political climate, no matter what happens, the Chinese people will always stand together with the North Koreans, breathing together, sharing our fate.
It’s worth noting that the DPRK’s “great efforts in seeking independence, autonomy, and national security” originally involved invading South Korea.
There is plenty of condemnation of western imperialism and the astute insight that America’s “final aim is to throttle humanity’s most beautiful and value orientated socialist society“, North Korea.
Bless their little cotton socks they really believe that “the DPRKs development of satellites, guided missiles and nuclear weapons is a contribution to humanities peace and justice.”
Luckily this is one very small voice in the milieu of people shouting ‘are you completely nuts North Korea?! No! Put the nuclear toys back in the nursery!’ But I bet Kim Jong Un will still put it up on his mantle piece next to his award for Sexiest Man Alive.
