As if braving Spring Festival travel crowds and probing questions from nosy relatives wasn’t enough, over ten thousand tourists at a Chongqing park last Sunday found themselves having to navigate a four-way intersection with 14 traffic lights, each flashing different signals.
The traffic lights have been confusing locals since at least May of last year, when a traffic official advised drivers that “They are just for decoration because the junction looked bare. They look very pretty at night but drivers should just ignore them.”
The traffic signal/art installation is part of Chongqing’s Yangren Jie, a tourist area featuring wacky and tacky imitation foreign buildings, as well as the world’s largest bathroom.
