Prospective zookeepers at Guangzhou zoo are required to be experts in Marxist theory, according to the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Human Resources.
The exam includes an interview and written exam testing applicants’ cultural and historical knowledge and zoo-related knowledge, as well as philosophy and the principles of Marxism, according to the bureau.
Zoo officials said it was not their decision to add Marxism as a requirement.
The job advert has quickly become a joke on social media after it was first reported by Yangcheng Evening News. “Our party will nurture party members among animals,” one micro blogger wrote on Sina Weibo.
