A Chinese official who sparked outcry after images showing him smiling at an accident site, has been expelled from the Communist Party and will face judicial charges for corruption and bribe taking, the Commission for Discipline Inspection Supervision Department (CDISD) of Shanxi Province announced on Friday.
Yang Dacai, who was notorious for appearing in photos wearing a variety of luxury watches, was sacked for “serious wrongdoing”, including violating Party discipline and suspicion of criminal activities.
Yang was snapped smiling at an accident site where 36 people died in September 2012, sparking an outcry on Chinese social media and leading to a human flesh search by netizens. Yang was sacked from his position following the smiling incident, but defended himself over his fashion choices, saying he often exchanged watches with his son, and had used his own income to buy the timepieces.
