There were an estimated 1.5 million tourists to Shanghai’s Yuyuan Gardens over the Lantern Festival, according to the Jiefang Daily. One restaurant reports selling over 100,000 glutinous rice balls (tānguán), a traditional Lantern Festival snack, on Sunday alone.
Hordes of tourists also flocked to Nanjing’s Confucius Temple Square.
I was at Yuyuan Gardens last night and can confirm (SHANGHAIIST EXCLUSIVE) that yes, there were a lot of people there.
