Fresh from his trip to North Korea, Dennis Rodman says Kim Jong-un wants Barack Obama to ‘call him‘. The two men watched an exhibition basketball match, and ate a ‘delicious’ meal together. They made an odd pair, one the potentially insane megalomaniac who loves to play the villain, the other the ruler of North Korea.
Speaking to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Rodman said “[Kim] wants Obama to do one thing: Call him.”
“He said, ‘If you can Dennis – I don’t want [to] do war. I don’t want to do war.’ He said that to me.”
Rodman seems committed to the idea of basketball diplomacy, “[Kim loves basketball. And I said the same thing, I said, ‘Obama loves basketball.’ Let’s start there.”
The ex-Chicago Bulls star seems to have taken a shine to the young dictator. “No, I’m not apologiz[ing] for him,” Rodman said. “You know, he’s a good guy to me. Guess what? He’s my friend. I don’t condone what he does … [but] as a person to person – he’s my friend.”
You know when your friend is in a car accident, and ends up going to prison on a manslaughter charge, and you stick by him, because you love him and he didn’t really mean it? Well this is like that. Except in this case, Kim Jong-un is responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of people, the misery of even more, and oversees a gulag system as bad as anything Stalin’s twisted mind could come up with. But it’s cool because Dennis Rodman says he’s “a good guy”.
