Who the hell is Sun Jiazheng? Oh, he’s the vice-chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference! Track China’s leaders and their careers, connections, and news appearances with Reuters’ “Connected China” interactive flash app, and become the coolest guy at Politburo-themed parties. Uniform not included.
Considering how Chinese politics is typically a
clusterfuck complex web of personal connections and professional relationships, the Reuters tool is incredibly adept at breaking down the country’s new leaders based on “Institutional Power” and “Social Power,” as well as including career comparisons and basic factual data. Not only can you find out great details about, say, Zhang Chunxian (Party chief of Xinjiang!) but you can also see that he is “Allies with Hu Jintao” and “Reportedly close to Jiang Zemin,” and even see a Pokemon-card style breakdown of his skills. Zhang may only have 1 point in the “Personal connections” classification, but he’s got three “Network” points!
