”People with a high-school or university education should not be restricted under the one-child policy. High-school graduates should only be allowed to have one child. People with lower education levels should be prohibited from giving birth.” Perhaps Chen Guangbiao should stick to getting run over by cars and selling canned air and leave policy issues to the slightly more qualified.
Chen’s comments were made to the Anhui Business News (CN) on Sunday, and translated by the South China Morning Post. Something about “people with lower education levels should be prohibited from giving birth” didn’t exactly resonate with a lot of readers, and Chen later posted this quasi-apology on Weibo:
“[I] hope government puts more value on people’s qualities instead of just their numbers. Regarding the right to give birth, it is a fundamental human right. Everyone is equal.”
This is less an apology and more an attempt to just ignore his previous statements, which he hopes to be forgotten by the time of his next ridiculous publicity stunt.
