During a weekend stop in Beijing, Robert Downey Jr tried to boost enthusiasm for the upcoming Iron Man movie by telling an audience:
I’m interested in all things Chinese and I live a very Chinese life in America-I [have] made it my business to pay attention to what’s going on culturally and also some of the other traditional aspects of Chinese culture. I am very interested in martial arts, and I am very interested in traditional medicine.
Downey is apparently under the impression that seeing two traditional Chinese medical practitioners and doing kung fu helps you understand China, whereas we know it just makes you a naive Hollywood turd. The star’s awkward remarks come as the movie’s Chinese partner, DMG Entertainment, is hoping to make Iron Man 3 a big hit in the Middle Kingdom, putting in an extended cameo by actress Fan Bingbing and featuring the confusingly non-Chinese villain ‘The Mandarin.’
