Midweek Music Preview is a rundown of all the events happening on stages across Shanghai. On the docket this week: Abaji from the Lebanon strokes his guitar with a violin bow, and local Shanghai bands gather for a rock ‘n roll night at Yuyintang. You can witness the birth of new DnB and hip hop combo Buck Em Clowns at 390, or train your ears with a Docile Shaoxing opera at SOAC. Uptown Records is holding a Saturday afternoon festival with food, live music and vinyl, of course. And if that’s still not enough, head over to our calendar for more.

Shaoxing Opera: Luk Man-lung @ Shanghai Oriental Art Center
Cultural class or leisure activity, you decide. In popularity only surpassed by the infamous Beijing opera, Zhejiang’s very own Yue opera style comes with similar treats like bright costumes and shrill singing. Of course I am ignorant and it might be a very different experience for the connaisseur. At least I was lectured by a friend that it’s a totally different deal.
