Huang Yang, a student at Fudan University, died after being poisoned this month.
The sister of a Fudan University student accused of fatally poisoning his roommate has defended her “kind-hearted” younger brother and urged the media to be fair in its coverage of the case.
The suspect, surnamed Lin, was arrested after his roommate Huang Yang died Tuesday, two weeks after he was hospitalised from drinking water spiked with N-Nitrosodimethylamine, a highly toxic chemical used to induce liver disease in rats for cancer experiments.
In a series of text messages to newspaper reporters, Lin’s sister said her brother is a good-natured and compassionate person incapable of murder.
The whereabouts of a third roommate are currently unknown. The roommate, surnamed Ge, attended Sun Yat-sen University as an undergraduate at the same time as Lin. Some reports have theorised that Ge, rather than Huang, might have been the target of the poisoning.
