A cab driver in Shanghai has been rewarded after returning a bag of golden bullion that was left in the back seat of his taxi. The bag contained six gold bullion bars worth over one million yuan. The compensation for his good deeds? A handsome 200 yuan (US$32.39) and a pat on the back. Well, at least he’s richer in moral contentment.
“I’m not greedy and just wanted to do something good,” cab driver Ni Longchun told reporters.
On March 5, Ni, who works for the Shanghai Dazhong Taxi Co, noticed the black bag lying on the floor as he picked up a passenger in downtown Huangpu district.
“Don’t move,” he told the passenger, who had begun trifling through the bag’s contents.
The passenger tried to claim the bag as his own, but our hero Ni saw right through him and threatened to call the police.
“When I was looking up the police, I also received the call from my company about the lost bag,” Ni said. He then turned around in his cab and personally returned the gold back to its rightful owner, who reportedly did not reward him at all.
So who is the mystery Scrooge McDuck casually carrying around six bars of solid gold? His name is Ma Yonggen, and not much is known about him or where he was headed with the bag in tote.
This isn’t the first story of a bag of gold going astray, maybe that’s why the market price is crashing.
