An alleged terrorist attack on Tuesday afternoon in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region has left 15 people dead, and two injured, according to local government sources.
According to the Xinjiang government, at 1.30pm on April 23 in Bachu County, Kashgar, three community workers were visiting a family when they discovered several suspicious persons and illegal weapons.
After a mob took the community workers hostage, police rushed to the scene. The three hostages were killed on the scene and the “terrorists” set the house on fire.
Six people were shot to death during the fighting with police and eight were captured.
Local police say they have uncovered evidence that the gang was planning to launch terrorist attacks.
Update 14.15 CST: The AFP is quoting an official surnamed Cao that “twenty-one persons were killed in all” during the incident.
