This weekend couldn’t be any better. MIDI Festival, Art on the Bund Tour, Alex Niggemann playing at LOLA, Jasmine Li turning ZEAL into a fun affair, and MIDI after party with Ben Huang at 390. On Sunday, there’s an interesting movie screening about the past, present and future of a community of peasant workers. Not exciting enough for you? Go to McDonald’s, they have a new chicken burger. And if that’s still not enough, head over to our calendar for more.

Premiere of Mao Chenyu’s New “Paddy Film” @ chi K11
Experimental filmmaker Cao Kai invites independent newsreel worker Mao Chenyu to screen and discuss two of his works:
Ximaojia Universe (2009)
In Yueyang, Hunan Province, the Ximaojia clan, a group of 20-odd individuals from 11 families forms what amounts to a village. The Hunan-born director, both as a member of the community and as a filmmaker, actively intervenes in the archaeological archival work that links the relics of the past, people living today, and a future history. At times, he recreates things that have vanished. Referencing the worldview passed down through the daily lives, myths, and traditions of these people, this grand experimental ethnographic documentary attempts a new interpretation.
I Have What? Chinese Peasants War: The Rhetoric to Justice (2013)
Deconstruct the logic of survival of the new Chinese peasants, reconstruction of the subject of the farmers. If I was a revolution Mole, holding sharp teeth. I will have harvest: self-justice, rhetoric products, poetry and nihility.
