A doctor in Shenzhen’s Longgang district accused a patient of not paying the full amount of money for an abortion, then used a photo of her getting undressed at the clinic as blackmail, according to CNTV.
The patient, Xiao Cai, found out that she was pregnant on March 20. She and her boyfriend, Xiao Zhang, decided to get the abortion soon after, and she went to Min’ai Hospital in Henggan to go through with the procedure.
The couple paid 2,000 yuan for the surgery but the doctor insisted that they still owed 500. Said doctor then took the patient’s clothes and called Zhang from the hospital, demanding that they pay the money.
When Zhang got to the hospital, the doctor gave Cai her clothes back. However, the patient claims that the doctor took pictures of her while she was changing clothes and tried to use the photo as blackmail so that they would pay.
The hospital later returned the extra money the couple had been charged and issued an apology after police were called to investigate the situation.
Chinese abortion clinics continually receive negative attention for their shady practices, alleged involvement in forced abortions, and illegal procedures involving gender diagnosis.
