A 13 year old girl from Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region who killed and dismembered a female classmate did so because she was jealous that the victim was more beautiful than her, a court ruled.
China Daily reports:
According to the court’s judgment, the 13-year-old, named Qin, was a sixth-grader in Renguang Elementary School in Nandan, in the same class as her victim, a 12-year-old named Zhou. Qin and Zhou were good friends and neighbors for a long time. But Qin was jealous of Zhou’s popularity in class and hated that Zhou openly commented on Qin’s weight and looks.
On the evening of April 10, 2012, at Qin’s home, Qin hit Zhou’s head from behind with a stool while Zhou was watching TV, knocking her out.
Fearing Zhou may report the incident, Qin used a cook chopper, a beer bottle, a paper-cutting knife and a pair of scissors to brutally kill Zhou.
Qin cut off Zhou’s head and arms and put them into plastic bags. Zhou also cleaned the bloodstains at the scene of her crime.
The court found Qin guilty of voluntary manslaughter. Since she is below 14, the minimum age of criminal liability in China, she will be detained in a rehabilitation centre for three years.
Qin’s parents were also ordered to pay Zhou’s family 108,000 yuan in compensation.
