In news that will come as a blow to bitter upper-middle class housewives everywhere, police in Shanghai destroyed over 3,000 bottles of knockoff wine on Tuesday.
The counterfeit wine, labelled as Chateau Lafite, one of the world’s most expensive brands of wine, was seized from an unlicensed workshop last year (it’s unclear from reports why authorities waited so long to destroy it). If successful, the counterfeiters could have expected to have sold the wine for around 40 million yuan.
While the bottles did not contain Chateau Lafite, the wine was still like, wine, over two thousand litres of wine, down the drain.
