After a lot of soul searching, a group of government officials in Hunan have finally figured out why their kind is so sorely disliked. No, it’s not the rampant corruption, sex scandals, or bad photoshops. It is, obviously, that their qi is all out of whack. Also, they might have some problems with false causality.
After straightening out their fengshui, the officials in Zoumajie, Hunan, saw great success! According to the New York Times:
Our bureau wasn’t doing so well until we erected the barrier last year,” said the official, who gave only his last name, Chen. “Now things are a lot better.” […]
Feng shui, in fact, provides useful opportunities for businesspeople to curry favor with influential bureaucrats. To avoid exposure, officials often use business contacts to introduce them to a clairvoyant and pay for the consultation, which can be pricey. Mak Ling-Ling, 46, a Hong Kong feng shui consultant who frequently travels to the mainland, charges $16,000 for an hourlong presentation on auspicious real estate investing.
If the “barrier” set up by the Hunan officials is high enough to prevent prying eyes from spotting, say, gambling and sex shows, then they really might be on to something.
