A Shenzhen woman has died after she was trapped by elevator doors which then descended, slicing the woman in half, according to the Shenzhen Evening News.
The victim, a 24 year old nurse surnamed Wang, was in the elevator in Changhong Tower in Shenzhen’s Luohu district, when it stopped due to failure. Since the door was open the woman attempted to exit, only to be trapped when the elevator started moving again. The elevator fell at least three stories, killing Wang.
Horrifically, the other four passengers in the elevator were left covered in Wang’s blood, though fortunately none of them are reported to be injured.
‘Elevator accident’ is currently trending on Weibo. The news of Wang’s death comes a day after an old woman was crushed to death when the step of an escalator in a Hubei Walmart gave way, plunging her into the machinery.
Update 13.00 CST: Shanghaiist’s Henry Williams brings our attention to a similar case in the UK where an elevator company was found liable for the death of a banker who was killed in a similar fashion to Wang.
