The one Warhol portrait that won’t be on display in Shanghai.
Hooray! Our favourite three days of the week have arrived. Friday, Saturday, Saturday to Sunday weekend, get get get with us, you know what we say! What? You don’t? Well, let me tell you! We say party every day, pa-pa-pa-party every day. And golly gosh, if we don’t have the finest selection of hip and happening events over this most majestic of mid-May weekends then slap me twice and call me Shania.
Oh yeah? You really wanna fight about it? Well just go ahead and slap me anyway. I can stand a few beats and I don’t give a rat’s ass if everybody in the world knows that I have had a damagingly obsessive number of wet dreams about that foxy country-pop princess. Besides, I’m new, so cut me some slack.
Hello, everybody, Siukei here; your new and now most favouritist lifestyle editor of Shanghaiist. Well, I’m the first official lifestyle editor there has been, so just go with it. At the behest of all you worked-out, wide eyed, weekend lovers, I have thoughtfully compiled this selection of events which will help you to make the most out of your WEEKENDIST. And if that’s still not enough, head over to our calendar for more.
The second annual Shanghai Beer Week will be seeing its first event on a real life BOAT. The Brew Cruise will indulge its attendees with free flow craft beer, Boxing Cat food, and did I already mention that you’re on a mother-fucking boat?! Tickets are scarce though, so for those of you who were late or unlucky, then do not worry about a thing, Canadian Comedy Night is coming to town. You can spend your evening heckling at Canucks and they might actually respond with something offensive-it’s a once in a lifetime experience! Option three is the Bar Rouge Jungle Party. Though I cannot personally vouch for its previous two years’ successes, I imagine that, Bar Rouge + sluttily dressed solidarity – usual Bar Rouge atmosphere = a potentially fun night.

Head down to the Flea Market at Oasis Xintiandi and empty the stalls of all their kinkiest wares in preparation for the Pervert Party and 390’s Hunt or Get Hunted. The self-proclaimed pervert posse are bringing the party to Shanghai Rose on the Bund. But don’t make too much of a struggle as you leave; it is a pervert party after all. For all you Shangays, Hunt or Get Hunted promises GoGo boys and hot dancers, while DJ Sacco will be “laying down creaming white splatters of noise on the dance floor.” Randy dandies, go forth!

For a lazy sunny afternoon, consider going to Brownstone’s weekly block party complete with drinks, BBQ skewers and hot dogs on the house. If the weather remains miserably drizzly, count on a retrospective tour of over 500 Warhol works to be on exhibition at the Shanghai Power Station of Art. If you haven’t seen it already, then I suggest you should. And if you happen to have already been to one outside of the mainland, play spot the difference. Hint: the portrait you won’t find is of someone whose name rhymes with Mareman How. For the evening, be sure to jump aboard the Jay-Chou Chou train departing at 19:30 from the Mercedez Benz Arena.
