The Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, today announced that the President of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Xi Jinping, will pay a State visit to Trinidad and Tobago during the period May 31 to June 2, 2013. The Chinese President will be accompanied by his wife, Her Excellency Peng Liyuan.
Xi is expected to discuss trade and cultural links with Persad-Bissessar, who heads the world’s 96th largest economy (according to IMF figures for 2012).
The office of the Prime Minister released the following statement alongside its announcement of Xi’s trip:
Trinidad and Tobago has consistently remained an adherent to the One China Policy since it recognised and supported the restoration of China’s legitimate rights in the United Nations during the 26th Session of the UN General Assembly in 1971.
Oh, and Xi will visit the US afterwards, meeting with President Obama in California.
