15 year old dies following 400m endurance run
Wu Xiaoguang, a 15 years old middle school student in Guangzhou, collapsed and died after two 400 metre endurance runs on April 20, according to Netease.
Wu's parents have accused school administrators of failing to send the boy to hospital in time to save him.
The school claimed that before the first 400 meter run, the teacher told students that if they did not think they could finish the run to sit it out, but Wu chose to take part. After Wu collapsed, the teacher immediately rescued him by doing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
The school also said that Wu had suffered a similar collapse during primary school but his parents didn't inform the school about his condition. The school agreed to pay 50,000 yuan in compensation to Wu's parents, a figure far less than they demanded. The case is now in arbitration.
In December 2012, a Shanghai student died after collapsing during a mandatory 1000m running test, a mere two weeks later another student died playing basketball.
