Reporters at the Washington Post say they’ve seen a confidential report prepared for US military and government officials containing a list of over two dozen weapons systems that have been compromised by Chinese hackers.
Meanwhile, in Australia, the blueprints for the intelligence agency’s new headquarters have also been compromised by Chinese cyberspies, according to ABC.
The US report had been prepared in March, and a version which did not list the compromised weapons systems has been released to the public.
Designs stolen reportedly include plans for helicopters, ships, fighter jets, and several missile defence systems. An unnamed military official told the Washington Post:
This is billions of dollars of combat advantage for China. They’ve just saved themselves 25 years of research and development. It’s nuts.
The systems are thought to have been stolen from defence contractors.
In Australia, the blueprints for the new headquarters of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), were also thought to have been stolen from a contractor.
Seems like President Obama and Xi Jinping will have much to talk/obfuscate about when they meet next week in California.
