Bad Canto highlights the above post by a Hong Kong student at Columbia University in the US, who was shocked and appalled that a group of citizens from a country might choose to fly said country’s flag during a celebration.
Translation by Bad Canto:
Last week, when I was walking past the school library, I saw a group of Mainland Chinese law school graduates, energetically waiving the sanguinary flag while posing for photographs. My heart sank; “regarding the thief as their fathers” was flashing through my mind. An American nearby roared, “Waiving the Communist flag at the school is like waiving a Nazi flag, which is the greatest humiliation to this renowned academic institution.” I am speechless. Even these so-called Mainland Chinese “elites” lack reflections on monstrous crimes committed by the Communist regime, not to mention other people. Those who think that Chinese don’t equate to the Party, please open your eyes, and see the fact!
It’s hard to decide who’s a bigger dick in this, the (potentially fictional) American who thinks the flag of the PRC is the same as a swastika, or the pearl-clutching, anti-mainlander Hong Kong student whose “heart sank” to see citizens of a country enjoying themselves and flying the flag of their country (don’t tell him that Chinese people also fly that flag at *gasp* sporting events).
