We’re all for sex-positivity here at Shanghaiist, especially in a country woefully lacking in comprehensive sex-ed, but even we are grossed out by this statue of two teenagers making out recently erected in Zhangzhou.
The statute, which lies in Fujian Ecological Park Avon in Zhangzhou, was created by artist Liu Qing, who said he hoped to attract the attention of parents and get them to think about the social phenomenon… of teenagers making out in public.
Liu has masterfully captured the awkward nature of learning to french kiss as a young person, and the even more awkward experience of inadvertently blundering on two young people doing so.
At least the Zhangzhou lovers are less creepy than the Chengdu man who makes out with statues, though they definitely deserve a place on the list of the worst works of public art in China.
