Attendees and journalists at the Fortune Global Forum in Chengdu will be able to access Facebook and Twitter without a VPN for the duration of the forum, according to SCMP.
Facebook and Twitter are only going to be accessible from the wifi at the Shangri-La Hotel in downtown Chengdu, where the forum is being held.
The forum organizers have even created the hashtag #FortuneGlobal to promote the event.
This isn’t the first time that China has selectively lifted internet restrictions for special events. In 2008, during the Beijing Olympics, journalists were allowed to access Facebook and Twitter.
Nanjing may allow access to Facebook and Twitter during the Asian Youth Games in August.
The Fortune Global Forum attracted 600 delegates this year, including many executives from Fortune 500 companies.
