When a joint investigation by the Guardian and the Washington Post broke the news that the National Security Agency (NSA) was harvesting private user data from major internet companies – including Google, Apple, and Facebook – there was much speculation as to the identity of the leaker. It was revealed on Monday that the whistleblower was 29 year old IT analyst Edward Snowden. The timeline traces Snowden’s remarkable flight from his home in Hawaii to a Hong Kong hotel in which he is currently holed up in.
