An injured guard dog gave factory workers in Luoyang a shock when it turned up outside the gates after supposedly being euthanised over 12 kilometres away.
According to Sina, the dog, Zhuang Zhuang, was taken to an animal hospital after suffering a severe injury to his leg. After attempting to treat the dog for a number of days, vets and factory workers agreed that the merciful thing to do would be to euthanise Zhuang Zhuang.
Workers left the dog with the vet and returned to the factory. Later that same day however, a factory guard surnamed Chen spotted Zhuang Zhuang outside the plant gates.
“I thought that someone had changed their mind about putting him down and then brought him back. I then realized that he had somehow found his own way back,” Chen told reporters.
Vets later revealed that they injected Zhuang Zhuang with a euthanasia drug, but it failed to have the desired effect. They anaesthetised the dog in the hopes that this would kill it. When hospital staff checked in on Zhuang Zhuang however, he had disappeared.
“When I saw him I cried,” Chen said “I also had no idea how this dog, who had never even left the factory grounds, had managed to find his way home from a place 12km away. He must have been in so much pain too.”
Zhuang Zhuang having more than proved his resilience, workers chose to ignore the vet’s advice to have him euthanised, and the dog was handed over to a different animal hospital for treatment, where he made a slow recovery.
The factory received a full refund for the failed euthanasia.
