It’s pretty normal to pack multiple pens for an exam. Maybe a few pencils and pens, just in case. But one Shanghai student had her mother spent over 2,000 yuan on watches and other equipment for her English listening gaokao exam, Shanghai Daily reports.
“The exam is a very special occasion. I don’t think it is extravagant because I don’t want my child to risk any technical problems like a signal failure,” says the mother.
She is not the only parent to take more extreme measures to ensure her child’s exam success. Parents have booked hotel rooms close to the examination centres in the hopes of reducing their children’s stress levels both before and on the day. And who could blame them? When every year, a handful of students miss their exams due to traffic congestion or freak thunderstorms, every precaution matters.
Unfortunately for the mother, she did not stop to think about the slightly off-beat, incessant ticking noise of the four watches, which is probably enough to drive any highly-strung and nervous student insane.
