An employee in Hunan province was stunned to receive 40 condoms from his company, gifted to him during Dragon Boat Festival as part of the company’s rewards and benefits package.
While most companies hand out items such as sticky rice zongzi, thousand year old eggs, giftcards or even cash, this quirky firm in Zhuzhou decided on something a little bit more unique. The company distributed a total of 40,000 condoms this year, all with an expiry date of 2015.
This is not the first time that condoms have been used as seasonal presents in China. A teacher in Guangxi gifted his students with three condoms each for Christmas in an attempt to educate his class about sexually transmitted diseases. Following the fake condom factory scandals, mainlanders have been stocking up on imported condoms when shopping in Hong Kong. Quality issues and sexual health concerns aside, some people genuinely do think that condoms are a legitimate present. Especially when Xi Jinping has been seen to be a fan. One Chinese girl demonstrated exemplary filial piety by buying her father a pack of Jissbons.
When asked what he would do with them, the employee replied, “I’ll use them for myself.”
