A keeper at Kaiyang Animal Zoo in Xinmi, Henan province, was killed and partly eaten by a brown bear, the local government said this week.
According to the zoo’s rules, animals should be in an enclosed area before being fed, but the keeper failed to follow safety protocol. The bear attacked him and had partially eaten him before zoo staff were able to intervene.
The animal has since been transferred to Zhengzhou Zoo where it was confined to a secure enclosure.
