No air conditioning?
No Huge problem!
Thousands of college students in Southern China are leaving their sweltering dorm rooms to sleep in gyms, libraries and even roofs in pursuit of cooler ground. Chinese dorms usually hold up to 4 students in one room; not exactly roomy, but tolerable in cooler months. This quickly changes in the summer, when a combination of body heat and stifling temperatures make the small living quarters feel like a cheap sauna.
These pictures come from a college in Wuhan, a city that suffering is from extremely hot and muggy weather during this summer’s heat wave. A lack of sleep, extreme discomfort, and stress are exactly what these students don’t need right now, but getting AC isn’t exactly a cakewalk.
Offbeat China shared a debate between netizens on Weibo calling for air conditioners to be installed in college dorms. Many claimed that these college kids are asking for too much:
Netizen 袁壽宏 asked: “Why less and less of the younger generation can endure hardship and ‘eat bitterness’? Why they are less and less resilient to pressure? Summer is supposed to be hot.” Another netizen 路人丁 commented: “When I was in college, I felt extremely happy with a fan. Look at students now…”
While some others retorted that times have changed.
Yumiiiii- commented: “An air-conditioner is no longer a luxury as it was in old times. There’s no need to compare everything with the past and call today’s students ‘spoiled’.”
