August is going to see a lot of big international names. Along with Metallica (Aug 13) and Pet Shop Boys (Aug 20), Sonic Shanghai festival will be battening down in between these two heavyweights on August 17 and 18 with a guesstimate of 60 bands.
Organizers of the formerly (and in my opinion, preferably) named Shanghai Sonic music festival have confirmed Limp Bizkit, Black Panther and the Shanghai based trumpeter, Li Quan. They claim that they are pulling back the curtains on just the first of many artist-confirming-announcements to come.
Rumours that have been flying around recently have included Aerosmith (!), MIA, Carly Rae Jepsen, John Legend, Jake Bugg and Alt-J.
Tickets for the festival are already on sale through Damai. 280RMB/day or 980RMB/day and 680RMB/two-day or 1,680RMB/two-day pass.
Jamiroquai, British nu-jazz funk act, (better known as the smooth maneuverer who wears a hat), will be kinda, sorta, technically opening the festival six days prior to Sonic Shanghai on August 6. Total props goes to the person who can come up with the best literal translation for “Ja-mi-ro-quai”.
