An Asiana Airlines flight crash landed at the San Francisco airport Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of two Chinese girls, both only 16 years old.
The girls, Wang Linjia and Ye Mengyuan, were found outside the plane, according to the San Francisco fire Chief who spoke to CNN.
The students are from Jiangshan Middle School in Zhejiang province, according to CCTV.
The flight, which originated from Shanghai and carried passengers from Seoul to San Francisco had gone smoothly up until the landing, when its tail had hit the runway. It had carried 307 people in total, with 141 Chinese citizens onboard.
Luckily, the other 305 people on the plane survived, though about half of them are being treated for injuries in San Francisco.
Personnel are still inspecting the site to determine what caused the accident.
“For now, we acknowledge that there were no problems caused by the 777-200 plane or [its] engines,” Yoon Young-doo, the president and CEO of the South Korean carrier said to reporters, Xinhua reported.
