Eight people were killed and 12 left missing after heavy rains triggered landslides and flooding in Sichuan. A tornado in Jiangsu province injured 49 people, four severely, and caused heavy damage to property, in a weekend of extreme weather across the country.
Over 4,700 residents were relocated from flood stricken areas in Sichuan to avoid further death. More heavy rain is expected this week, with the Sichuan Basin due to receive 100 to 180 mm from Monday to Tuesday, as well as thunderstorms and gales.
Meanwhile, meteorologists are forecasting a heat wave for many parts of southern China, with temperatures expected to top 35 degrees in Chongqing.
