The girl’s body was found near an evacuation slide after the plane crashed Saturday at San Francisco International Airport. Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White said the girl suffered injuries consistent with being struck by a fire truck or other vehicle.
Law enforcement sources said the Police Department’s major accident investigations team has checked tires from several San Francisco fire trucks that responded to the crash.
“An investigation is under way, that’s all I can say,” said Officer Albie Esparza, a police spokesman.
Police are waiting for the coroner to establish whether the girl was killed as a result of the crash or if she was still alive when she was allegedly struck by the rescue vehicle.
San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault said results of a preliminary autopsy would not be released for two to three weeks, pending the outcome of toxicological tests and other analysis.
