Police investigating what was believed to be a bomb on Huaihai road in downtown Shanghai, found only a box a sand, Shanghai Daily reports.
The bomb disposal unit was called after Huangpu district police received a report that “suspicious black case” was outside an Agricultural Bank of China branch at 701 Huaihai Middle Road.
After an investigation, the case was found to contain sand. It is unclear whether the box was intended as a hoax or had merely been abandoned.
It was the third such case in Huangpu District since June 23. An unattended suitcase was found at a China Everbright Bank branch on Lujiabang Road on June 23. People in the bank called police, who found the case to contain only books and returned it to its owner.
