According to the Wall Street Journal, Spring Airlines will be changing its policies to encourage the hiring of older women who are married and have children.
The Shanghai-based budget airline says that it is making the move because older flight attendants provide “different service advantages and skills” and are “more mature and reliable”.
In a crisis situation, who wouldn’t rather a no nonsense ayi over the winner of one of those airline beauty pageants? Flying ayis are also way more equipped to make battle with China’s legion of horrible airline travellers.
The announcement also comes only a few months after the airline was mocked by netizens for announcing that it would dress its attendants in sexy maid outfits. One microblogger quoted in the Shanghai Daily wrote, “The airline should respect their crew members because flight attendants are still quite different from maids and butlers” while creepier reactions drew parallels to Japan’s maid cafes.
Let’s hope to God they don’t combine the two.
