In a story that seems more appropriate for an American TV talk show, a woman called her five ex-boyfriends to meet her at a local hospital to dutifully assist her during her abortion, according to Netease.
The 22 year old woman, who is known by the pseudonym Ya-Ya, was introduced to three of the five ex-boyfriends through mutual friends, while she came to know the other two through the internet. The five men were not aware of each other before Ya-Ya requested that they come to support her and to be responsible for the situation they may or may not have created. Neither she nor the ex-boyfriends knew who exactly it was that impregnated Ya-Ya, but the 20 percent chance of responsibility was enough to oblige them all to help.
The five men reportedly eagerly obeyed Ya-Ya as she shouted “You, go to line up! You, go to pay! And you do check with me.” The scene apparently impressed the staff of the Maternity and Child Care Hospital, in Yantai City, Shandong province, where the operation was being performed.
The Chief Physician on staff at the clinic spoke with local media. “These men are all suspected, which proves that they did not take contraceptive measures while having sex with the girl,” he said, raising further concerns of sexually transmitted diseases.
There has been a greater push by Chinese authorities in recent months to improve the sexual health of the populace. Shanghai’s health ministry launched a new app to help residents find free condoms all over the city.
