After a brief respite, it seems that bird flu is back again.
A 61 year old Hebei woman was diagnosed with the disease this past weekend, China Daily reports. The woman is currently in the intensive care unit in Beijing Chaoyang hospital.
The woman is suffering from severe pneumonia and is in a critical condition. According to a statement from the Beijing municipal health bureau the woman often bought groceries at a local market where live poultry was sold.
The last outbreak started in March, with over 130 infected and 43 killed. A report from the United Nations estimates that China has lost nearly $6.5 billion since the start of the outbreak.
A recent study shows that H7N9 may be transmissible through the air, at least between the ferrets that were used as test subjects.
