In the less-cheery side of today’s cake-related news, two were killed and 19 injured when a bakery exploded in downtown Beijing this morning. A gas leak at the Auspicious Phoenix Cake Store triggered an explosion that required nine fire engines to quell.
Police scrambled to extract two additional 50kg gas tanks from the smoke and flames, and were able to remove them before they too ignited. A preliminary investigation has ruled out the possibility that the explosion was an attack of some kind, according to the South China Morning Post.
