According to The Wrap, Despicable Me 2 will not be screening in China.
Though the reason behind censors pulling out the first instalment to the franchise is unclear, commentators say that the reason behind the cut for Despicable Me 2 is that it would take the spotlight off China’s own home-grown animations.
Earlier this year, The Croods was pulled out of cinemas 2 weeks early, supposedly for this same reason reports THR.
China is currently the world’s second largest film market and has grown more than a whopping 35% in the first half of 2013. Meanwhile, the revenue from its imported films has shrunk by 21.3%.
