Shanghai continues to attract the wrath of the sun gods. After recording a record high temperature for 2013 on Wednesday, average temperatures on Friday were the highest in 140 years.
A meteorological station in Xujiahui recorded the record temperature of 40.6 degrees celsius, topping the previous record of 40.2 degrees set in 1873. City weather authorities issued a red high temperature alert.
