A band called “Day Above Ground” has released the lovely video above, which features a scantily clad Levy Tran and as many asian one-liners as could be crammed into five minutes and five seconds worth of video. After receiving a torrent of negative Youtube remarks, the band has left the video up but added an apologetic description, and it’s great.
The apology works best when juxtaposed next to the song’s lyrics:
You’re my Asian girl, You’re my Asian girl
We appreciate all the criticism and support.
Yeah, shark soup (What? Fuck it, we’ll eat it)
Our song “Asian Girlz” was not written with any malicious, hateful, or hurtful intent.
It’s the Year of the Dragon / Ninja pussy I’m stabbin’
We know it is racy and does push the boundaries further than other songs out there.
Superstitious feng shui shit (what) / Now lay your hair by the toilet
Understand that we do not promote or support racism or violence.
I love your creamy yellow thighs / Ooh your slanted eyes
We love everyone no matter what race, religion, or sexual orientation.
Get down / Happy endings all over / Bruce Lee / Toyota / Spicy tuna
Please respect our decision to delete any violent, insensitive,
or hurtful comment and also one that supports racism.
Fried Lice / Sailor Moon
We hope that we can continue with our lives with much love and peace.
I love your sticky rice / Butt f*cking all night
